Favorite childhood memory:

One of my favorite childhood memories is from my second or third birthday. My birthday is on the fourth of July. I was lying in bed and listening to the fireworks outside. I wanted to see the fireworks so badly that my dad took me outside. We sat on the sidewalk and watched them light up. I’m not sure why this means so much to me but it did give me a nickname for a few years.

Ever since, my only birthday “requirement” has been to see the fireworks. When I was really little my parents told me that they were for me and that the whole world was celebrating my birthday. Now I know that is not true, but on my birthday I pretend that they are. You can’t tell me that they aren’t- at least not on my birthday.
