Assignment 3: Ellie Phillips

There is good and evil in the world, but I don’t believe it’s absolute. Sometimes evil believes that their actions are justified. Because of this I believe that there is a gray area, and the possibility arises where good people are capable of bad things. For example, the Stanley Milgram Experiment, takes innocent people and shows them their capability of actually killing a person through electric shock. At heart these experimentees are not evil, but they did cross over because of authority pressure. Milgram’s experiment proved how events like the Holocaust happened under Hilter’s overbearing authority. I don’t believe that either can be totally eliminated. The battle between good and evil is ongoing, and I cannot fathom a world in which is does not exist. I think society defines what is and what isn’t evil, as whatever the the group defines as ethical. Overall though, the daily conflict of good and evil is difficult to see because as exampled by Milgram’s experiment even good people can cross over into evil.
