September 17, 1787 - At the Constitutional Convention in
Philadelphia, delegates from twelve states voted unanimously to approve the
proposed U.S. Constitution.
This was a historic event for a multitude of reasons. This was
important in American history because it influenced the system of government we
would later shortly adopt in this country. It was significant because it
provided stability for the country after a very weak and shaky articles of
confederation. This constitution not only influenced our nation, but also the
rest of the world. The world at that time didn’t think the idea of a democratic
country would work and before the constitution they were proven right. But the
constitution created a strong nation that the rest of the world would soon come
to respect and even fear. The constitution allowed for the United States to
rise as a global superpower. I appreciate this event because it created a
stable foundation for the country I live in.
