George Washington transmits the proposed Constitutional amendments (Bill of Rights) to the States for ratification. Before its passing into law, many citizens had concerns on the protection of their rights, which were not explicitly stated in the Constitution. The resolution was to pass the Constitution and then produce amendments which would fulfill this desire of explicitly protected rights. The following 10 amendments did just as the Anti-Federalists required. Once these amendments were decided upon by congress they then needed state approval. October 2nd, 1789 George Washington sent the most important 10 amendments to the states for ratification. After this date, the ratification made these people’s rights law. Today, these rights are pillars of American society. Such rights include freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, and petition. Within the first amendment alone, five crucial rights are protected. Much has changed from October 2nd, 1789 to October 2nd, 2016, but a constant during these years was the valuable protection of Americans’ rights.
