Assignment 8: Ellie Phillips

Fears: snakes, dying without making an impact, dying young
Annoyances: teenagers, people who complain and then don’t offer solutions, people who have strong overbearing opinions without knowing the whole truth
Accomplishments: Dance Blue president, currently surviving junior year (barely)
Confusions: prejudices, religion
Sorrows: blunt, not social
Dreams: doing something important with my life
Idiosyncrasies: In the morning I have to eat breakfast before I do anything else. Breakfast I use as a time to actually wake up and begin to process the morning, so to do that first is best for my morning routine.
Risks: Cornell Summer College, canyoneering in Zion National Park
Beloved Possessions: home in Killarney, Canada; my dog, Sugar
Problems: procrastination, not making the most of things

So I prefer to be honest with people rather than beat around the bush. I am blunt. Of course, this can aggravate others, that’s what the harsh truth does, right? Being truthful isn’t always easy, this is probably why white lies are invented so as not to hurt anyone’s feelings. My bluntness shines when my opinion is asked for on typical everyday topics (like what to wear). But I believe an opinion can hold as little or as much weight as you allow it. Personally, when I ask for my friends’ opinion, I listen to them, but they certainly are not defining factors, that’s why I choose full-on honesty. Being truthful, even if it’s not easy to hear, it most helpful.
