Sadie Marsh- Assignment 5

Prompt: What does it say about our society that the Emmy's have so much glitz and attention and the Nobel Prizes are quietly announced in the news? Is this bad? Good? Appropriate?

I think that it shows what celebrity based society we are. It is disappointing that we get more excited about seeing the latest fashion, etc. than celebrating someone who has made a significant – and dare I say- meaningful impact on our lives.

While we sit and look at our televisions with glassy eyes and minor paralysis we are missing something meaningful. Something that includes people who have changed lives with their scientific advancements, their “benefits to mankind”, and their writing. We are missing the youngest ever Nobel Laureate recipient accept their award at only seventeen. The average age is fifty.

These awards should be announced with great pride and take priority over Emmy’s (and similar events) in the news.
