Assignment 6 - Grace Bond

This ones kind of heavy but:
  1. Regardless of your race, describe your experience whether that includes privilege, discrimination, hate, etc. Do you feel accepted by those in the Academy that aren't your race? Why do you think there are so few minorities in the Academy?
  2. If the obligation to go to college and have a stable career that makes good money had not been drilled into your head since you could remember, what would you do with your life? If that answer really does include college and a good career, great! Write about it. But if it includes living naked in the Amazon and being initiated into a group of monkeys, that's okay too. Write about it!
  3. What is your favorite flavor of soup? Why? Is there a specific memory you have that relates back to that flavor?

My response to #2:

Even if I had the choice to do anything in the world, I would probably still end up doing exactly what I want to do now. One path I've been looking at is going into international relations or foreign policy, which requires a college education no matter what. Another field or occupation I'm really interested in is neurology, but specifically a neurosurgeon. Obviously you have to go to a lot a lot a lot of school to become a neurosurgeon. I know it is slightly possible for me to pursue that now, but I wouldn't even start my career until I was in my mid 30s and that's not exactly what I want for my life. I would only become a neurosurgeon if I knew I wasn't always on call and I wasn't sacrificing my relationships for my job, but there are very few neurosurgeons that can say that about their lives. Once I retire, I would want to travel the world. I know that such a cliché, but maybe it's a cliché for a good reason. Seeing the world and understanding The planet on which you live is one of the best experiences anyone could have, and one that I wish everyone had the opportunity to have.
