Good and evil only exist in the minds of people that need them to accept things that happen in the world. When people cannot explain why bad things happen to good people, they tend to blame it on the evil in the world. The idea that there is absolute good and absolute evil constantly pushing against one another is a coping method. When pushed too far, it is easy for "good" people to do "evil" things. The same can be said for "evil" people doing "good" things out of character. But assuming that one person can be overall good or overall evil is an easier way of understanding why people do the things they do. Although it is not fair to say that good and evil do not fix exist at all, it is more accurate to say that they only exist in the minds of the people that need them.
