Assn 5: Leighanne Guettler-James
I think television serves the purpose of entertainment and advertising and it can also be an inane use of time. There are a few TV shows that I genuinely have fun watching such as "Jane the Virgin" and "New Girl". These shows make me laugh and leave me in a good mood when I finish an episode. In this way, television is an effective form of entertainment. A lot of times though, TV is taken over by advertisements; the reason that I much prefer Netflix over actual television. It's really annoying when you sit down for a whole hour and a half to watch 30-45 minutes of a show. This characteristic of modern television in the U.S. is what makes it an inane use of time. There is almost always something more constructive you could be doing when you're watching television that is twice as long as necessary. It is actually sometimes sad to see a room full of little kids all focused on a television instead of playing. I think we could all use a little less television in our lives.
