Tobias Cox - Assignment 9 - What is it good for?
I suppose that, objectively, violence is morally wrong and not an activity that any person should engage in. But, I find myself wondering where the line between being peaceful and being walked all over is. I have always cared very much for the people that I surround myself with, and I consider my friends my family and my family irreplaceable. If it comes down to it, I would engage in any sort of activity, wrong or right, if it meant standing up for the people I care about. I believe this personal philosophy extends to the national level as well. The leaders of this country and any country should care very much about its citizens - and they should treat them as if they are family. Similarly to the way that I would defend my friends and family, it should always be defending the individuals of one's country before anyone else. Sure, this mentality is very difficult, and it isn't a firm rule. Sure, its awful to think that war kills children in other countries. But if there is no other solution, it would seem to me to be that we would try to save our children first. This is easy to say when you haven't seen or met children in other countries, sure, and I bet it gets harder if, say, you have family in other countries. It's never right, but if it comes down to it, it is better to save those closest to you first - even if it means doing the wrong thing for the right reason. If it were to save my friends or family, I wouldn't hesitate.
