Assignment 13- Sheridan Wagner

Over the past year we have viewed a drastic increase in the amount of forest fires occurring in North America. These fires span for days across thousands of acres and wreak havoc over these areas. Businesses are destroyed, water sources are polluted, ecosystems are decimated. This growing destruction is claimed to be due to global warming. As temperatures increase, typically dry seasons are becoming even more dry making wildfires more probable. So I propose a solution that would not only prevent future fires but would also provide a short economic boast. When starting a fire, you first need tinder, from there the fire can grow and begin burning the actual fuel. Trees provide both tinder (leaves) and fuel (wood), so the main cause of forest fires is in fact the trees. Which is why I’m proposing the cutting down of all trees in America. This would not only prevent many wildfires but it would also lead to an increase in our lumber industry. Don’t tell me that this is rash. I’ve heard from many that global warming is unpreventable or doesn’t even existence. So why waste our time on a lost cause. If the temperature is going to continue to rise naturally and wildfires are going to continue to increase naturally, the best option is to cut the problem off at the root and chop down every tree.
