I sit next to Amanda Byerman in English class. What I do know about Amanda is that she is from Nevada, and just moved to Kentucky this past year. She will never be your typical girl that just moved to a new city, however. Quickly after her arrival, she made plenty of friends and is more involved in school than I am sometimes. She is part of the speech and debate team at our school, and devotes a lot of her time to more academic extracurriculars, such as Student Voice Team or Young Democrats. I would say Amanda is extremely confident, but not in an arrogant way. She's proud of herself when she sees that she has done something worth recognition, and knows how to be humble and thankful for her own talents and skills. I would like to think that Amanda's life might turn out nothing like she expected. That is not at all out of spite, but rather I think she has much more potential to do much bigger things than she ever thought she would. Amanda reminds me a lot of a gecko, however. She is very quick-witted, but always cheerful. Amanda is the first person to ever ask me how my weekend was or how my day was yesterday. She's always so thoughtful and asks important questions that require a lot of her teachers and her peers. I've noticed that she also make sure to ask how all of her teachers and other friends are doing. Sometimes I get so caught up in life that I forget to show people how much I genuinely care for them, but not Amanda. I know the transition may have been tough for her, but she does not show it. I am forever grateful that such a kind, smart, and thoughtful friend has come into my life this year.
