Assignment 14: Flying Turkeys- Amanda Byerman
Every year at Thanksgiving, I envision a beautiful family gathering around a perfectly-set table overflowing with delicious food carefully created with love. I envision a happy, smiling family, filled with people who seem to never have had a care in the world. However, this is not the case in reality. Thanksgiving only seems to get more stressful and tense- plopped right at the end of the semester, seemingly strategically located smack dab in the middle of the most stressful part of the year for many high-school students. Thus, Thanksgiving break has, in recent years, become a days-long cramming session, complete with 7 AM alarms and a multitude of caffeinated beverages. However, as each year goes by, I learn more and more how to realize what Thanksgiving does mean to me: one day, or one hour, to take stock of what I love in my life: my family, friends, home, and, of course, some good food!
