Assignment 20 Ben Schaeffer
I wish learning a hobby or sport was as simple as reading a "how to manual." I don't have talent in other areas, so I will focus on lacrosse. Although I invest a lot of my time at home into it, keep in mind I am far from perfect. If a kid committed to Syracuse is a "lacrosse god" then I am a "lacrosse painting of the Virgin Mary;" however, I believe I can offer valuable advise. My first recommendation for gaining a leg up on the competition is to always have a stick in your hand. Walking the dog, watching TV, playing checkers, the more comfortable you are with it in your hands, the more effective you are on the field. This includes throwing the ball against the wall everyday when you're at home or taking extra shots away from practice. Second, it is important to play other competition that challenges you. For me, this has meant going to states in New England and in the Mid-Atlantic, or simply going against older players. Finally, it is important to watch lacrosse. Muscle memory and overall body motions can be derived by watching those who do it best. I feel as if these concepts can make you successful in any field. As long as one is eager to learn, willing to put in extra work, and willing to challenge themselves, they will find success.
