Assignment 19 Ben Schaeffer

A somewhat cliche yet invaluable piece of advice that I first received around the age of four from my father is do what makes you happy. No other advise has stuck with me quite like this piece. It seems simple enough, to do what pleases you; however, millions of people remain in gridlock, doing a job they don't truly love, or occupying themselves to the point where they have no time for leisure. If you're happy, work doesn't quite seem like work. My dad is on call every day of the week with the stressful job of being a pediatric surgeon. Through all the difficult times, he remains upbeat and compassionate, and budgets his time to make room for other hobbies. As soon as I find a career path I truly love, I will actively pursue it, regardless of salary. Material wealth cannot replace happiness. Rich or poor we all end up dead eventually. This piece of advise applies to other facets as well. While happy, the opinion of others tends to not matter. I may act like a total doofus, but I am a happy doofus. I believe this mentality will allow me to approach college and life with a mindset leading me to success.
