The boy in the picture is Omran Daqneesh. He is a five year old in Syria. He was pulled from a damaged building after an airstrike in Syria. He sits covered in dust and blood with an expression of shock and a feeling of weariness. He seems oblivious to anything around him and he just sits in a chair too big for his size. He doesn’t even know if his parents are dead or alive. This picture has been shared globally and has made Omran a symbol for the carnage that is ensuing in Syria. Omran is bringing attention to the thousands of children that are killed or injured in Syria. His picture has evoked emotional responses to a global audience. His picture has been photo shopped and memed into pictures that cry for help as well as tell a message. One photo has put him in front of a desk as if he is representative of his country. His picture has become one that has provoked thought and discussion about the terrors in Syria.
