"The Old Vet and His Tank"
This picture has a Russian WWII army veteran kneeling beside the tank he spent the entire war in. The tank was made into a monument in a small Russian city. The villagers around him were worried for him that his heart wouldn't be able to handle the emotion strain that he was feeling. This picture, instead of being a picture of a world changing event, is of one individual. His story is just as important as any other figure in WWII though. It shows that the prison that his tank was, during such a horrific time, can still have deep emotional meaning. To him, the tank was his home, his sanctuary. War is glorified in many cultures, America included. War is made to be a heroic sacrifice made on the part of the soldier who holds the enormous courage necessary to undertake such a task. The reality is, a soldier is just a regular person like us. A person who cries and feels, and a person that becomes forever changed.
