Assignment 3: Come to the dark side, Rey! - Jake Tucker

Good and evil always seem to be in conflict with one another, and the battle is always portrayed as black and white. Though, I see the struggle between good and evil as more of a gray versus slightly different shade of gray, or at least in real life this seems to be the case. The lines are much more defined in books and movies than it is in anything that is more likely to actually occur.

Even though Hollywood may portray good versus evil as the most definite thing ever it really isn't. The side one person may see as the definition of pure evil, may be the side another person sees as the greatest good ever. This is seen in politics throughout history; during the Cold war Americans saw the Soviets as the "Evil Empire", but the Soviets didn't exactly have the highest opinion of Americans either. The same problem is seen in much more trivial things as well, for instance, sports.

Personally, I see the Duke Blue Devils and Louisville Cardinals as the antithesis of all things good in the world, but any 16 year-old fan for either of those teams must feel the same way about my beloved Wildcats. The whole good versus evil thing really is all about perspective, as I sit here typing this getting distracted by the Texas-Notre Dame game it reminds me further, as I watch all the sad fans after the opposing team scores, that my beliefs are true.
