Assignment 4- Daryn Smith

This picture shows Martin Luther King Junior giving his famous "I Have A Dream" speech. This speech was very influential and had a major impact on American society. King, alongside many others, worked to give African Americans the same rights as their white fellow citizens. They organized non-violent protests, boycotts, and rallies. This one was particularly important. 250,000 people gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial to hear various speakers, one of which was King. Perhaps the most significant part about this crowd was the fact that it was not all black. This was one of the first times in history that blacks and whites had protested together for black rights on a large scale. This was a nationally televised event with a speech that is one of the most famous in American History. This speech and march inspired many movements worldwide for racial equality.
