Assignment 12 Lena Ilagan
I'd say I'm the luckiest of Lena's toys. I've seen almost everyone go; Hannah, Pudge the bulldog, Buddy, Fifi, Prune, Sheldon T. Monkey, Waddles, everyone. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one left now, except for the ones in the closet, but I think she's forgotten about those. Every day I keep watch over Lena's room. It's a nice room, with warm yellow walls, and nice-smelling candles. I sometimes even catch a glimpse of the outside world every now and then. Right now it's so cold, but that's okay, because every night Lena comes in, tired and sleepy, and snuggles right up to me. We always cuddle through the night; we've done so ever since she was one. I still remember the day her dad picked me up. It was one of many blistering cold Indiana winter mornings. I saw a man in a suit and tie speed-walk in with a determined look on his face; it was obvious he needed something. I smoothed my fur and tilted my head a little so he would notice me; I wasn't the best looking among my shelf mates. My fur was a boring brown, and my eyes small and black. I had been sitting on that shelf for almost five months by now, and things were getting pretty dismal. But then his eyes fell on me. They twinkled with relief as he plucked me down from that dusty shelf and he said, "Hey, I haven't seen a stuffed animal like you." My little heart was fluttering as he paid and strapped me into the passenger seat of his car. It turned out that that man was Lena's dad, and he was in a rush to get to his daughter's first birthday. I remember my first impression of Lena as a smiling, chubby-cheeked girl with chocolate cake all over her face. She didn't have a lot of toys prior to me, and when she saw me, her eyes lit up. Her mother wiped the mess off of her face and she stretched her stubby arms out towards me. That was the first hug I had ever gotten, and boy it sure was a great one. There would be many of those hugs for years to come. We still are the best of friends, and I hope that someday, I can be friends with her child as well.
