zachary langdon blog #1 introduction

Greetings Internet, glad to be displayed on your respective screens. I’m Zachary Graham Langdon (any of these may be used to refer to me). I enjoy contemplating many things, most frequently philosophy, the future, technology, design, society, and law in descending order of current interest. I find my interests have a common thread best summarized as that I find systems interesting in how they currently, could, and should work, and ideas pertaining to their current and possible operation. I’m also a fan of circumlocution if that is not made apparent by this point in space-time. Speaking of space-time, I find that in recent months I’ve been falling down the Star Trek rabbit hole; it serves as a fantastic source of optimism and material for contemplation. I find symbolizing topics, interests, and topics of interest as rabbit holes (as pertaining to Alice in Wonderland) to be a convenient and apt metaphor. The further down a rabbit hole one goes, the more engrossed and knowledgeable about the topic of that rabbit hole one becomes. Reaching the bottom will only occur when one knows all of that topics knowledge, from which point one may start digging and make the hole deeper as they transition from a descending learner to a digging leader. One can work to become a digger in a few rabbit holes, or descend a little down many (becoming a jackrabbit of all trades if you will, but a muskrat of none[puns are great {sub-sub asides are also great}]). You can jump down them of your own accord, others can push you down them, or you can enter one through inaction. My current favorite rabbit hole to tumble down at the moment has been design. I’ve begun operating under a pseudonym, Langdonian (vain, yes. Cool sounding, I would argue so), in order to explore design, branding, and aesthetics. I have set up a twitter ( @l_angdonian ) for it and a website ( langdoniantest.wordpress.com soon langdonian.xyz ) which I use in tandem to promote a font I’ve made called Lattis. I designed it for screens as I was annoyed by pixelated fonts. So Lattis is designed for use with a rectangular pixel matrix (which is the case for most screens) as to never pixelate by virtue of its strictly horizontal and vertical composition. Here’s its logo! It can be download from the aforementioned website along with a title and condensed version should anyone be interested. And as to not end with a shameless plug, I'll leave you with my core guiding principle for your own musing. "Choose the option which maximizes the good to harm ratio in favor of the good********". Asterisks include "when the choice is unclear, choose the option which is most stable and maintains as many future possibilities as possible, which is often the status quote", "keep in mind the effect of the transition from status quo to chosen option indecision.", "err on the side of not taking away abilities, especially if that has been a trend in that area in the relative recent past", "if it is practical and possible to do so, get consent of the those affected prior to implementation of change, and include them in the decision process". I hope you all have a pleasant existence.
