My name is Leighanne. I am the daughter of Karen Guettler and John James. Born in Santa Barbara, I was the third of four children. My two older brothers (Colin and Taylor) and I were born in California but my younger brother, Nathan, was born here is Lexington. Because of my upbringing surrounded by rowdy boys I am a little loud sometimes and I often annoy people with my energy. Honestly, I just tell people to tell me to shut up if I'm being too loud.
Since I was very young, I've had a large interest in Dance and have been on a competitive dance team for seven years. Dance has been a huge part of my life because it has taught me how to work on a team and also how to be a leader among peers. I spend so much of my time dancing that you can often spot me dancing at seemingly random moments during school and just my life, in general. There is never a time that I don't feel like dancing.
I've been in accelerated classes since third grade and in the accelerated program since fourth grade. I think being in these special programs has had a huge impact in my life because I have always been surrounded by extremely smart people who have goals that are far above average. At the same time, I find the accelerated cluster to be largely exclusive and limiting as far as demographics are concerned.
The best part of my summer was teaching dance camp for three weeks and finally getting paid after four years of volunteering. I got to teach little kids (mostly girls), ages 6 to 1, tap and jazz classes and enjoy all of their funny kid moments. Even though there was always a couple girls who wouldn't listen, I still enjoyed every moment of camp. I also got to attend a dance camp for my own education and go on a wonderful vacation to Destin, Florida with my family.
This year, I am also adding vice president of the Y-Club at Henry Clay and salaried dance teacher to my repertoire. I am excited to improve my reading and writing skills this year and hope to be successful in this class.
