Assignment 24- Annie Varner

Annie Varner
AP Lang- Logsdon
Assignment 24

Junior year was a beautiful mess of events.  I was pushed to my limits and ended up growing more than I could have ever imagined in one year.  One of my favorite class activities to which I can credit my intellectual growth this year was Mr Logsdon's socratic seminars.  Sure, its not super difficult for me to talk in front of my classmates, but the topics themselves were stimulating and thought-provoking.  I would spend days binge-watching different TED talks and discussing the topics with my mom and dad to get different insights on them.  His class isn't a traditional AP Lang and Composition class with regimented deadlines and structured material, it's a class that empowers the student to think about the realities around them and how they can impact the world, long after they've graduated Henry Clay and forgotten how to write a synthesis essay.

Oh also My dad and I have had this on-going discussion about religion and evolution and which is true and which is not and what our world would look like without religion and the possibility of an afterlife, etc, and the discussions we have had have almost literally opened up a new realm of reality for me.  I appreciate now more than ever the benefits of talking and listening to your elders.

I wish I had listened to more music this year.  Sophomore year I went into this crazy DJ mode and started shazaming every song I heard and made sure it went in the right playlist, like I would not let a song pass by me without me figuring out the name of it.  So yeah, more music.

I also feel like I let my school work control my life a little bit this year.  I would put my homework in front of spending time with friends and family, which is actually just unnecessary if you already have a 4.0 Gpa.  Like, chill out annie you're gonna go to college.

This summer I am going to be a full-time camp counselor in North Carolina.  It pays $110 a week, and I'm there for 10 weeks.  I'm nervous to leave Lexington and my friends for that long but I'm also so excited to have the experience.
