Anyone who knows me could tell you that my tastes are a bit eclectic, particularly in music. When I'm not jamming out to show tunes, I could be listening to anything from Johnny Cash to Regina Spektor to Electric Light Orchestra. This playlist reflects at least some of that.
Soundtrack to a New Day
1. Mr Blue Sky- Electric Light Orchestra
This song is just straight up optimism, encouraging the listener to be the happiest they can be- to accept and enjoy the happiness which life is providing without letting the nighttime overtake you.
2. Big Yellow Taxi- Joni Mitchell
I love this song because it compromises between silly platitudes and honest meaning, standing up for what you believe in and what could happen if you don't. It's got a fun, happy tune which is also advocating for social reform- basically what I want my life to be like.
3. Ghosts- Laura Marling
This song is simple and lovely, describing a love which, however temporary, it badly needed in both lovers' lives. The acoustic aspects of this song make it upbeat and soothing, with representations of letting the past go and looking toward a future where things are temporary (and that's ok).
4. Mushaboom- Feist
The consistent, comforting tune of this song makes it one of my favorites. Mushaboom evokes an image of an idyllic life, simple and hopeful and pure, and I love starting my day with that sort of image of the world.
5. The Devil Went Down to Georgia- The Charlie Daniels Band
I honestly can't legitimize this one. It's just a great song and it gets me pumped up for the day. What can I say, I'm a sucker for chaotic fiddle. I also like the placement of this song, reminding of the evil that exists in comparison to how goodness defeats it, the goodness like that shown in the other songs.
