La la Land was a very unique movie in that it had several musical numbers that helped move the plot along. It could be compared to the musical numbers that accompany most Bollywood films. The movie is an aspiring actress and a piano player who dreams of opening his own jazz club. The movie follows their path toward realizing their individual dreams and in the process, they grow apart. The characters choose to be happy by achieving their own goals and aspirations even if they can’t be together while doing so. The movie makes you laugh, think, and maybe even cry. It really puts you in your feels. The ending was outstanding in that it wasn’t the usual expected happy ending. The two main characters didn’t end up together. They chose individual happiness instead of happiness in each other and it was ok. There is this idea that you have to have love to be happy and this movie challenges that. The characters end up satisfied, fulfilled. Overall I would highly recommend seeing it in theaters, well worth it.
