Assignment 19 - TD

The one line that has made me rethink my life was not advice given to me, but a lyric in a song. In J. Cole's song "Dollar and a Dream III" he states "You logged off because I'm online, small talk from small minds. I wanna buy the mall but there ain't shit in this small town."

I used to live in the Arlington/D.C. area in poverty and the most amazing piece of architecture to me was not neither the Lincoln Memorial nor the Washington Monument. To me it was always the Ballston Mall. It was particularly impressive to me because it was so massive and half the surface area of the walls are made of glass. The line related to me because it gave me the motivation to be the kind of person that can buy Ballston Mall. Prior to hearing this line, I had been unmotivated, doing well in school but still very uninterested in the future. I was bogged down by the small minds that surrounded me and was starting to become like them. This line made me realize that I cannot bother myself with those kinds of people. As Eleanor Roosevelt said "Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people." I made me realize that do not desire to be a small person. I do not desire to be an average person. It made me want to become great and rise above my circumstances. I do not literally desire to buy Ballston Mall, but I want to leave my past life behind and be an influential person that I could do as such.
